ALPHA PEEL - BUILDING TOLERANCE
FOR THE EXCLUSIVE ALPHA SKIN PEELS - FOR MEN!
When and why should I build tolerance?
Due to shaving, men can have much more sensitive skin than a woman which is why building tolerance correctly is essential when men are beginning skin peel treatments. Building tolerance allows the skin to adapt to the acidic nature of the skin peeling solution over a safe period. This will allow you to avoid unnecessary side effects such as breakouts along with giving you maximum results from the peel treatment. It is essential that you have realistic expectations of what to expect and to remember that with all treatments time is key.
Alpha peels are specially formulated for men and the tolerance method is different to our SDNA and Skin Resurfacing peels. For this reason we recommend a tolerance building treatment plan that is spread over 8 weeks. During the 'Tolerance Building' treatment plan you will use our specially formulated ALPHA Barrier serum which comes with our ALPHA Tolerance building package. This is used after each peel treatment which will create a post-peel barrier for added protection.
When you start your treatment you will begin by using a 10% solution, moving onto 15% and then in the final stage of the treatment plan to a 20%. Once tolerance has been correctly built, you will then be able to assess your results and decide whether to continue using the 20% peel or whether you need to increase the strength in order to gain further results.
What method is used when building tolerance?
As you have learnt, building tolerance is important to your skin as well as ensuring you get the maximum benefit from your peeling treatments. The tolerance building process involves using a 10%, 15% and 20% peel treatment over the course of 8 weeks before commencing a full course of peels at 20%. The process is outlined below.
Week 1, 2 & 3 - For week one two and three, you will need to start with the 10% strength alpha hydroxyl acid solution. The solution will need to be applied three times a week for the first two weeks with a day left in between each peel. For example, on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Week 4,5 & 6 - On week four you will stop using the 10% solution and will need to move onto the 15% peel, however as the strength is higher you will only need to apply the peel once a week, for example on a Wednesday. You will continue using the 15% peel solution for weeks three and four.
Week 6 & 7 - By the sixth week you will be ready to move onto the 20% peel solution. You will need to stop using the 15% and only use the 20% solution once a week.
Week 8 - On week eight you will need to allow your skin to rest for seven full days before commencing a further course of six peels at a higher percentage.
Week 9 to 14 - As you have completed the tolerance course of peels and allowed your skin to get used to the acidity of the peels you can then commence a full course of 6 once weekly peels at 20%.
